Defending Democracy, Defending Nursing

Nurses know that health and democracy are deeply connected. When voter suppression silences voices, it undermines not only our communities but also our profession’s ability to advocate for safe staffing, equitable policies, and the future of healthcare. 

Across District 7, we must take a stand. Our power as nurses extends beyond the bedside — it reaches the ballot box and the policy arena. Voter suppression is a direct attack on our collective advocacy, and we cannot afford to be silent.

I call on every member to take action every Tuesday: #TakeActionTuesday

• Educate: Share nonpartisan resources that help community members understand their rights. 

• Engage: Encourage your colleagues, patients, and neighbors to register, to vote, and to know where and how to cast their ballot.

• Advocate: Partner with coalitions fighting for fair, accessible elections. Let decision-makers know that nurses will not tolerate policies that silence communities.

• Protect: Stand with those most affected by voter suppression — marginalized, rural, and underserved populations — whose voices are vital to shaping health policy.

Our advocacy for patients depends on advocacy for democracy. Protecting the vote means protecting the power of nurses to influence the future of healthcare.

Together, let’s rise against suppression and ensure that every voice counts, every nurse counts, every vote counts.
