November 18, 2025: Nurses, Social Workers, and Public Health Professionals Affected

This proposal limits the amount that nurses, social workers, and public health professionals may borrow in student loans, thereby restricting their access to graduate programs such as MSN, MPH, MSW, DNP, PhD, and DrPH. This initiative stems from H.R. 1, also known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill."

November 11, 2025: ANA Statement #TakeActionTuesday: Federal Loan Policy Changes Affecting Nurses — Your Voice Matters

The American Nurses Association (ANA) has issued an urgent statement on proposed federal loan policy changes that could significantly impact nurses nationwide — especially those carrying educational debt or pursuing advanced degrees.

These proposals may limit access to affordable repayment options, increase financial burden, and ultimately affect the nursing workforce pipeline at a time when retention and recruitment are already at risk.

Why This Matters for Central Texas Nurses

  • Many RNs, LVNs, and students rely on income-driven repayment or loan forgiveness to advance their careers.

  • Changes could disproportionately affect early-career nurses, nurses of color, and those pursuing graduate education — all essential to building a stronger, more diverse workforce.

  • Advocacy now ensures policymakers understand how financial strain impacts workforce stability, access to care, and the future of nursing.

What You Can Do Today

1. Read ANA’s full statement: American Nurses Association Statement on Proposed Federal Loan Policy Changes

2. Contact your federal representatives:
Tell them these changes will harm nurses, nursing students, and the communities we serve. Share your story if you feel comfortable — it makes a difference.

November 4, 2025: It's Election Day!

#TakeActionTuesday | Nurses Vote. Communities Thrive.

Your voice matters — not just in patient care, but at the ballot box.
This #TakeActionTuesday, we’re calling on every nurse in District 7 to vote and encourage civic engagement among your colleagues, patients, families, and communities. Nurses are trusted voices — and democracy needs us at the table.

Did you know?
Hospitalized patients may still have the option to vote. Many counties provide emergency or limited ballot procedures to ensure hospitalized voters can participate. Take a few minutes today to learn how your facility or county supports patients’ right to vote — and share that information with your care teams. See here!

Action Steps:

  1. Check your registration & polling info: VoteTexas.gov

  2. Encourage your unit & community: Talk about why nurses should vote and our impact in role modeling this in our communities.

  3. Ask your facility: What’s our process for helping hospitalized patients vote?

Together, we can strengthen both health and democracy — one conversation, one vote at a time.

Fall 2025: Defending Democracy, Defending Nursing

Nurses know that health and democracy are deeply connected. When voter suppression silences voices, it undermines not only our communities but also our profession’s ability to advocate for safe staffing, equitable policies, and the future of healthcare.

Across District 7, we must take a stand. Our power as nurses extends beyond the bedside — it reaches the ballot box and the policy arena. Voter suppression is a direct attack on our collective advocacy, and we cannot afford to be silent.

I call on every member to take action every Tuesday: #TakeActionTuesday

  • Educate: Share nonpartisan resources that help community members understand their rights.

  • Engage: Encourage your colleagues, patients, and neighbors to register, to vote, and to know where and how to cast their ballot.

  • Advocate: Partner with coalitions fighting for fair, accessible elections. Let decision-makers know that nurses will not tolerate policies that silence communities.

  • Protect: Stand with those most affected by voter suppression — marginalized, rural, and underserved populations — whose voices are vital to shaping health policy.

Our advocacy for patients depends on advocacy for democracy. Protecting the vote means protecting the power of nurses to influence the future of healthcare.

Together, let’s rise against suppression and ensure that every voice counts, every nurse counts, every vote counts.
